In my years as an early interventionist, I was usually quick to point out that babies begin to communicate their thoughts, emotions and needs the moment they are born.  One example of this is that healthy much anticipated first sharp cry at the moment of delivery.  It is their way of telling us that something monumental has just changed for them and they don’t quite yet know how they feel about that…

What we often don’t thing about until much later is that as almost immediately as babies begin to listen and comprehend language and then use that information to communicate with others, they are also being introduced (and paying attention) to print – store logos, street signs, books, their parents making lists, the alphabet on their blocks and toys, their name embroidered on their favorite blanket…

It’s this gradual combination of the knowledge of listening and speaking and exposure and understanding of print that that prepares a child to learn to read and write. For babies, all of this, everything they learn, is enhanced by the experiences they have.

It is my goal to use this site as a place to combine books with experiences to expand your child’s knowledge of the world around them.  Together, we will:

  • Explore quality books to share and I’ll explain why I like them,
  • Pair those books with sensory experiences and fine motor tasks that explore concepts presented in its pages,
  • And share how to use these experiences to promote speech and language development in what you will come to know as a “literacy-rich” environment.

Sounds like a lot, doesn’t it?  It is a lot.  And it’s a lot of fun, too.  I hope you can use this information to enjoy some quality time with your little ones a little bit everyday – and I hope the skills and ideas provided will make it easier than ever to do so.

Thanks for stopping by!
